Dear Fern Bell Families,
American League has a lot of exciting news to pass along to you for 2019.
Registration:
First, I will begin with our Baseball and Softball registrations which begin this Saturday February 16th and will conclude Saturday March 2nd. Online registration is currently open to all families for your convenience. Registration will close at 10:00 pm Saturday March 2 and we will not be able to accept late registration. Our softball division will continue with the same age divisions. However, there has been some exciting changes to the Little League rules for the Majors division. T-Ball (5-6 y/o), Coach Pitch (7-8 y/o) and Minors (9-11 y/o) divisions will remain the same. The Majors division will be moving to a more competitive 50/70 format which will allow base runners to lead off.
Player & Coach Training:
Learn to Play event will be held February 23rd from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Fern Bell. This event will for baseball and softball ages 5-13.
This year we will be holding a coaches clinic March 2nd from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Fern Bell. This clinic is designed to provide new coaches with the tools needed to fundamentally grow each kids abilities and give our veteran coaches some new material to use in their practice routine.
Evaluations & Opening Day
We will hold evaluations for baseball and softball the week of March 4th. A more definite day and time will be communicated by the baseball and softball Director's uponthe closing of registration. Opening day ceremonies will be held on March 30th and will include some new changes as well as some old traditions. We will still have our jamboree games, but we will kick those off with a Park Fundraising Home Run Derby. This will be a $5 (10 swings) entry, open for all ages with a trophy going to the Champion. We are also going to have inflatables and a raffle for a Rocket City Trash Pandas Hat and Shirt.
American League Shirt Sale
This year we will be offering American League Shirts for sale for you to represent your child and your park. This sale will conclude March 2nd, so we can get the orders in as soon as possible. There will be 2 ways to purchase your shirt: In person at the registration dates or online through paypal.me/FernBellPark. Prices are on the attached Shirt Sale Flyer.
Movies at the Bell
American League has joined with the South Huntsville Business Association to bring some exciting events to South Huntsville. We began Movies at the Bell last fall, but this year will be bigger and better. We will have sponsors from Google Fiber, Donato's Pizza, Mix 96.9, and others to bring you a fun filled evening for kids and adults of all ages. The movie lineup is attached to the registration flyer.
Board Member and Program Director Opportunities
American League will be looking to fill some positions with the upcoming election in May. If you are interested or would like more details about what is involved, please do not hesitate to ask. We are looking for motivated individuals that want to give back to the kids at our park. As for me, volunteering my time at the park as a coach or board member offers a feeling of pride and commitment and I absolutely Love what we are doing at the park. We are actively seeking a Secretary, Soccer Director, and Volleyball Director.
